WHAT GUIDES US
Core Values
THE REASON
Our Why
The "why" behind Black REwrite is deeply rooted in the recognition of the systemic challenges and historical underrepresentation that Black and Brown authors have faced in the literary world. It's a response to the urgent need for equity, representation, and the celebration of diverse voices in literature.
Black REwrite is a tribute to the past, a response to the present, and a beacon for the future. It's our contribution to a world where every story matters, and every voice is valued.

Champion and implement collaborative efforts that harness creative energy, pushing literary boundaries and fostering innovation.
STANDING ON SHOULDERS
Our Inspiration
We deeply value and acknowledge the trailblazing authors who paved the way.

Why I Built Black REwrite
Black REwrite was born from the growing effort to challenge, ban, and remove books by and about Black people from the places where young people learn. One of the most powerful ways to silence a people is to silence their history, to decide which stories are remembered, which voices are heard, and which experiences are allowed to matter.
I built Black REwrite because Black writers deserve a space where our stories come first, where we can write freely, explore the full range of who we are, and create without having to translate, soften, or justify our experiences for anyone else.
This is a space to strengthen the craft, finish the work, connect with other writers, and build on the legacy of the Black writers and storytellers who came before us. Black REwrite is larger than one person, but its purpose is deeply personal to me. I want every writer who enters this space to know that their voice matters, their history matters, and their work belongs in the literary record.
